Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at LTCE.
Mechanical engineering is a professional core engineering discipline that not only handles the design, manufacturing, and testing of products & systems, but has also broadened its scope to provide solutions to numerous real-world applications. This has been enabled due to the advancement in the technology of materials, processes, and computer science.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering aims to disseminate knowledge and skills through quality teaching, research, and innovations. The department has a glorious history of 28 years, since 1994. Initially, the department offered B.E. (UG) program in Mechanical Engineering, which was accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). With the resource enrichment in terms of lab infrastructure and faculty expertise, the department was approved with PG and Ph.D. research centre by the University of Mumbai.
In addition to the traditional laboratories which include thermal, fluid, strength of material (SOM), Theory of Machines (TOM), Machining, Machinery Diagnostics, etc., the department has cutting-edge, state-of-the-art laboratories for Additive Manufacturing (AM), Mechatronics, CAD/CAM, Electric Vehicles, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (DRONES). The department offers access to a variety of contemporary licensed software, such as ANSYS, PTC Creo, AutoCAD, etc.
In order to ensure the overall development of the student, the department provides various platforms such as Mechanical Engineering Students Associations (MESA), Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), American/Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating & Air conditioning (ASHRAE/ISHRAE), which guide, coordinate and help the students for placements, higher studies, internships, Participations in competitions like BAJA/SUPRA SAE, hackathon, code competitions, Industrial visits, fund acquisition and getting scholarship from the University of Mumbai as well as other professional bodies.
In line with the implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP 2020), which introduced the flexibility to choose the subject of the student's interest, the department is offering Major (Honours) and Minor courses among the various interdisciplinary subjects such as Internet of Things (IoT), Additive manufacturing, Electric Vehicle (EV), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science, Cyber security and blockchain, etc., which enhances the ability of the students to provide the technology-assisted solutions for the real-life problems.
Over the past three decades, we have grown our expertise and competence in the IT-enabled Design and Manufacturing centered Mechanical Engineering domain. Our department has a distinguished record in both teaching and research & development (R&D).
