About Department

The department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 1994, having illustrious history and offers Bachelor of Engineering, Master of Engineering and Doctoral degree programme. The department is vibrant with several activities round the year. We have research focus that benefits industry, society and the environment. The department is fortified with highly motivated faculty members, who besides their regular activities of teaching, do research and interact with industries. Faculties are actively involved in different sponsored projects funded by University of Mumbai, ICMR, SERB and most of our projects are sponsored or implemented in various industries.

            The Department is well equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and infrastructural facilities in thrust areas. It has advanced laboratories of Manufacturing, Thermal Engineering, Fluids Engineering, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, latest tools in the work shop, welding shop and carpentry. It also has seven advanced computing centres with software in Finite Element Analysis and Modeling, Automation etc.

The department is headed by Dr. Chandrababu Divakaran with thirty years teaching experience. His area of interest includes Supply chain Management, Knowledge Management, Renewable Energy Sources. Mechanical Engineering Student Association (MESA) was formed to accelerate academic activities of students and faculty. The MESA organises technical activities like seminars, student competitions and Industrial visits at regular intervals for the benefit of the students. Also, the department takes pride in achievements of its alumni, who have established themselves in various walks of life.

The vision of the Mechanical Engineering Department is:

To be recognized as a provider of proficient Mechanical engineers, contributing to society as Leader, Technocrat, Creator and Educator.

Mission

  • To educate, prepare and mentor the students to excel as professional mechanical engineers.
  • To incorporate critical thinking abilities among students for developing entrepreneurship skill, leadership qualities and innovative ideas.
  • To inspire the students and staff to participate in research and competitions.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

PEO 1

Perform Mechanical engineering in an extensive array of industries.

PEO 2

Practice advanced education, research and development with innovative efforts in professional careers with emphasis on social environmental and ethical considerations.

PEO 3

Graduates serve for lifetime learning and exhibit team work, management and communication skills to evolve as exultant professionals.

Program Outcomes (POs)

PEO 1

Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PEO 2

Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

PEO 3

Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

PEO 4

Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

PEO 5

Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

PEO 6

Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

PEO 7

Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

PEO 8

Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
